the ballroom
you cleaned your boot
on the doormat
outside
[i saw]
and i said not a word
though i was certain
you'd just tracked the dog
in off the street
i covered for you
[and you]
you walked over me
as if i wasn't there
so you see [a braggart] i am not
i am a simple doormat
made of wicker
[and wire]
