My first family milk cow. Bless her precocious soul, Maisy is all cow with attitude. You cannot entice her anyplace, as she has her own notions of where she should be at any time. Fortunately, she is halter broke, and she leads and stands agreeably to be milked. I've never had her to kick the pail nor lunge at me with her pitchforks. The difficulty is getting your mitts on her halter that first time. I am resigned to fetching along a lariat that I toss around her horn; once she understands that she is snagged she puts up no fight. Bless her troublesome soul. Her wicked horns assure the other cows give her a wide berth. I'd file them guthooks down to the creamline, but then I'd probably never get a lasso on her again [LOL]. She is currently nursing a black heifer calf sired by my homozygous black Gelbvieh bull.

Silvy is the all heart. She can be milked anyplace at anytime. All that is required is a stool and a pail. Silvy and herdmate Lightnin are ever the first cows to greet you when you enter the field, and she gives abundant wonderful creamy milk. She is due for an August 2010 calf.

Lightnin is another sweetheart of a cow. I've seen her kick up her heels like a colt and jog about the pasture, and often she'll ghost me around as i go about some chore. I have not milked her yet, but will do so in the Fall, as she is due for an August 2010 calf.

Tattoo: / 3E91
AJCA Registration No: USA 113400674
Sire: Mason Boomer Sooner Barretta
Dam: Snodgrass Peregrine Shania
Shania has a gentle disposition and gives milk aplenty. What I like best aside from the sloshing milk pail is that she has longer teats that suit my overlarge mitts well for hand milking. It can be quite tiresome using a thumb and two forefingers to grip those shorter teats of the other cows. Shania has a bull calf at her side.

Tangerine is a fuzzy peach of a cow. I've a particular liking for her tangerine color. She is due to calve this summer 2010.

Tessa was purchased this past winter at the stockyards with 3 nurse calves tagging along at her side. She had done a superb job getting them to weaning age, and has held up exceptionally herself. Her jersey bull calf is pictured somewhere hereabouts.

Stormy was purchased from Sherman Reed of Gadsden, AL. It proved the longest drive I have ever taken with truck and cattle trailer to bring back a bull. It was well worth it. I came back with two. Mr . Reed was a genuine pleasure to do business with. And seeing firsthand the parent stock these bulls came from was a real boon.
