The Charm of an Old Sofa
George Lewis Avery
The fact is young women
may find no enlightenment
until they have reclined on an old sofa
one that contrasts
the newness of the room
one ripe with age
but showing little wear
(aside from sun fade
and pattern baldness)
one that has had its fill of
tv remotes and microwave dinners
and nights spent alone in the den
one who longs for the bounce
of a shapely bum
and the sounds
of youthful laughter
i grant she'll jump
... for joy
(unless it's terror)
when it pops a spring
through the fabric
and shatters her superficial airs
