WTH?!
Written By: Will Halstead [PG Warning]
The rain had been coming down for three days now. The dark skies showed no sign of relief, turning the days eerily dark and gray. The sound of rain splattering on the ground and roaring thunder filled the air. The onslaught of rain and sleet had drenched the ground to such an extent, it was almost soup-like, rendering the dirt roads almost undrivable. I didn't think it could get any worse.
Our truck skidded and slid around on the road almost aimlessly. Bob was driving, he was better at driving in bad weather than me. We ran a tow truck service together. The business was named after Bob, the side of the red tow truck read Bobs towing Co.
What the heck are we doing out here?
Do you even have to ask? Bob replied, We got a job to do.
Who the heck would be stupid enough to drive in this mess of a storm? I asked irritatedly.
We had to talk over the sound of the rain splattering against the roof of the truck. The rain pounding against the windshield made it almost impossible to see the road.
Someone was stupid enough to Bob replied, And now we have to find their sorry asses. If it was up to me, Id just leave them out here.
Where the heck are we? I asked.
How the heck should I know, You're the one with the map? Bob replied.
Oh, well then, that's going to do us a lot of good, I can't even see the road!
Will you stop your whining! Bob cried out angrily.
Is that the car?, I asked Bob as we came up on a small blue car on the side of the road.
It matches the description, but it doesn't look like anyone's in it.
We pulled the tow truck in front of the car and got out.
Why would someone just leave their car here, I asked.
I don't know, maybe someone came by and gave them a lift.
In this weather, I don't think so, Let's make this quick.
We got out of the truck and headed back to the blue car. The mud on the road was slick under our feet.
Why don't you hitch up the car, Bob, and I'll make sure no one is sleeping in the back seat or something.
Sounds good to me, Bob shouted back.
I approached the car and looked in the passenger side window. The car was soaked inside and no one could be seen inside it. There was standing water in the floor of the car, the water appeared to be coming through the roof.
WTH?, I shouted out, Hey Bob, come look at this.
The roof of the car had been ripped off over the driver's seat, the twisted metal had snagged bits and pieces of flesh, hair and clothing. The seat was covered with a pool of bloody water.
It took Bob a while to get over to the car, he kept slipping in the mud and falling on his ass. Bob wasn't in the best of shape, he stood at about 5'3" and weighed at about 190. He had trouble getting around as it was, with a little wobble in each step, so the rain and mud didn't help him much.
What's the matter, Bob yelled out over the storm.
Come look at this, I yelled back as I pointed at the driver's side of the car.
Bob looked through the driver's side window, and then at the roof.
WTH?!, Bob yelled out, What could have done something like this?
I don't know, but it sure must have sucked to be whoever was in this car.
Let's unhitch this and go to the next town, Bob shouted, after examining the car.
Sounds like a plan, Bob, I answered back.
We unhitched the car and got back in the tow truck. The radio was down, due to the rain and all. There was nothing but static. We would have to wait till we got into town before we could tell anyone what we found.
It was hard to get going again, with all the mud and rain on the roads ,but soon enough we were cruising down the road just like we were before we stopped, slipping and sliding across the road.
Suddenly something smacked into the front of the truck, rolled down the hood, slammed into the windshield and slid down the cab of the truck.
WTH?! I cried out.
Bob slammed on the breaks and the car slid to a halt.
What the heck was that?
It looked like a dog or something, you should go check if it's ok, Bob replied.
You got to be crazy if you think I'm getting out in this rain again because of some stupid dog?
Fine then, I'll do it, you always manage to find something to whine about, Steve.
I grabbed a flashlight out of the glove box and handed it to Bob. He got out of the truck and slammed the door angrily behind him. He always seemed to have a temper about something. His feet sank almost ankle deep as mud and water filled his shoes. He looked back through the heavy rain and searched for the animal.
I don't see anything, Bob yelled out. I could hardly hear him over the storm.
No, wait, there's something.
He could make out the outline of something laying lifelessly in the road. He walked towards it.
I think it's dead.
There was too much mud on it to tell what it was. Bob got closer and took a good look at it.
hey, that's not an animal, that's a person!
Bob got down on his knees and checked to see if he was ok. The guy was face down in the mud.
Hey buddy, are you ok, Bob asked as he put his hands on him and rolled him over.
WTH?!
Bob jumped back after he saw the face of the person, or creature, what ever you want to call it. It had the form of a person, but the face was different, it was ugly and misshapen, like that of a demon. It laid there, lifelessly.
Bob turned around and yelled back at me, Hey, come look at this guy!
I could barely hear him. I looked back at Bob and saw it, standing there behind him.
Hey bob! Look out behind you!, I yelled back to him.
What was that?
I said, Look out behind you!
The second time Bob heard me. He turned around, and by the look in his face, he probably just about shit in his pants. The hideous monster was staring back at him with cold, glowing eyes.
What the hell is it? Bob cried out.
Bob started shakily backing away, but slipped in the mud and fell on his ass. The creature let out a hiss-like sound, showing it's razor sharp teeth.
What could I do? I couldn't do anything but watch what happened next. The monster was now standing over Bob, Holding him down in the mud with his foot. Bob was struggling to get away, but he was too weak. He swung at the creature's leg with his flashlight, using all the strength he had, but that just pissed it off more.
The creature flashed its large razor-sharp claws and swung at Bob, slashing him across his chest. I could hear Bob's cries of pain. I felt helpless to do anything, and in a way it really pissed me off, then I remembered the shotgun that I kept under the seat, damn, how could I have forgotten the shotgun?
I got out of the truck and pulled a 12 gauge Benelli pump-action shotgun out from under the seat. I brought the gun to my shoulder and aimed the gun at the creature. My aim was shaky, just the sight of the creature scared the heck out of me.
Bang!
I Fired a shot, but I missed. The monster stood over Bob's body and let out another hissing sound. Bob was now laying on lifelessly in the road. The sound of the gun attracted the attention of the large monster. It slung Bob's body into a ditch and started coming toward me. I fired again, and missed.
WTH!?, I yelled out angrily at my self for missing the shot.
The creature began to charge, my loud outburst must have startled it.
With shaky hands, I pumped another round into the shotgun, but the creature was already up to me. How the heck could this thing move so fast? It clawed at the end of the gun, slicing through the barrel as if it was butter, and it let out another loud hissing sound and swung at me again, but it missed and sliced through the side of the truck. The creature was like something you might see in a cheap horror movie. Its face was wrinkled up and distorted, and its evil glowing eyes looked like blue fire. The creature hissed at me again and snapped its saw-like teeth at me. I brought the shotgun back up to my shoulder and I shot it. The twelve gauge slug went through the monster's chest. It backed off and staggered, but didn't fall, it just stood there and looked at me. I raised up the shotgun, this time I had time to aim. I aimed it at the creature's head and I could tell that It knew what was about to happen. I fired a shot and the 12 gauge slug hit the creature in the forehead. The back of its head was blown off, and a mess of bone, brain tissue and green goo splattered the side of my truck.
The creature was finally dead, or at least I hoped to god it was. I knew it was too late to help Bob, but I checked him anyway. I could hardly look at his mangled, bloody body without getting sick. I got in the truck and started driving. I had to get to the next town and tell someone what had happened, even though I knew no one would believe me.
When I got in to town the rain had let up. It was now just a light mist, but now a thick fog had settled on the ground. I was on a paved road now, so the driving was a lot better. The radio was still static. I wanted to tell the police what had happened, but I knew that no one would believe me. I stopped at a gas station to fill up the gas tank.
I got out of the truck and started to fill up the gas tank. The gas station looked closed, there where no lights on or anything, so I guessed that I wouldn't have to pay.
It was quiet and peaceful out. No one was around. I looked at my watch and saw that it was three o'clock in the afternoon, so why wasn't anyone around? The thick fog made the small town appear Spine-chillingly ghostlike.
I could feel that something was wrong, I got the shotgun out of the truck. I looked around through the fog, but didn't see anything. I felt like I was being watched. I got my flashlight out of the car and shined it around. I noticed something, moving in the fog, my grip tightened on the shotgun, I was surrounded! I could see the glowing eyes surround me. There was no where to go, nothing to do but let them come, and I would be waiting.
